We've had our 19.2 cu ft side-by-side Kenmore for so long I can't remember when we bought it: a real workhorse! It's still in good shape. (You could buy it if you were here in town...) We're thinking of getting rid of it *only* because we're rebuilding the kitchen. We looked into consumerreports.com, eopinions.com, and various other ratings places, and at the stores themselves. Here's what we found.
(1) Any increase in the luxury of features seems to equate to an increase in size (unfortunately). In context: we wanted an *extremely* well-built, well-designed refrigerator, black exterior, water/crushed ice in the door to save energy in our hot summer, sturdy and not excessive plastic interior fixtures, and *medium* size for the two of us (counter depth). Not available!!! For all the other features, 25cu ft is what you have to get...
(2) At any rate, the reports, for *any* size, show that, for sturdiness, and order of consumer satisfaction, and overall "bang-for-the-buck", refrigerators are rated, in this order: Amana, Kenmore (Sears), Maytag (made by Amana), and so on, with GE to be avoided.
Sears (Kenmore) and perhaps others new models come out in or around March: watch for clearance sales. Hope this helps!
