How to set up for DSL?
Tuesday, February 20, 2007
I'm about to sign up with covad - no software, just a router on the phone line. Would you kindly explain to me, in small and simple terms, what I'll need to do to set it up, so I'll be ready, and so I'll understand it? (I haven't signed up yet. I have 2 computers in the house; 3 phone jacks. I'll use only 1 computer at any one time, and don't want to interfere with phone calls on the other 2 jacks!)

If you have more than 1 computer, you should get a wireless router. Make sure both your computers have a wireless networking card or adapter.
To set this up, just plug the wireless router into the modem the DSL provider gives you, then follow the instructions that come with your wireless router. The advantage is you'll never have to run lengthy Category 5 networking cables all over the place.
With DSL, you don't have to worry about phone jacks - DSL works side by side with your phone. In other words, you can do them at the same time.
