Unemployment will most likely expire before any money is seen since disability claims take so long.

in most cases your unemployment would run out before you get to the disablity part but rember this you apply and then you are deineid at first then appiel your case then send out all your paper work then ask your dr to send them a paper that says you can not work any more then you should get it if not you will have a hearing and then they take for ever and a day to get back with ther findings then you only have one more time to ask for another hearing then if you do not get it you have tomstart all over mind you all this takes place over 18 to 20 months so please save some money as it will be hard to have money when you try to get this but if you dr aleady told you you could never work again then get him to send that with yourfirst application for disablity then you should get with out going though all that stuff good luck from a disabled person

In Ohio, in order to collect unemployment you have to actively be seeking employment. You must contact a potential employer at least once a week and provide proof to the unemployment office in order to collect your check. So if a person is applying for disability it is assumed they are not able to work. Therefore, you cannot be actively seeking work and at the same time claiming to be unable to work-if that makes any sense.
I believe the process for a Social Security Disability claim takes a minimum of 6 months of being unable to work and most of the time it takes alot longer. And, the Social Sec. Dept. would require documentation of your income so I don't see how you would be able to collect unemployment while you start the permanent disability process.
I suppose every state has different rules but I'd imagine they are all similar. Hope this helps.

I was eligible for unemployment but had to turn it down I was told it would benefit me to collect disability because it is more to live on.Ask your disability claim provider handling your case.also, double check with unemployment and read their pamphlets. I believe disability would pay you more....Good Luck

If you are lucky enough to get Disability, it will take at least 2 years to get it and by then your Unemployment will be a thing of the past.

It depends on the state that you live in. For instance, California doesn't allow a person to collect both disability and unemployment checks at the same time. I'm also under the assumption that if both programs are federal programs, you won't be able to collect both.
